What is PMC?

PMC is a revolutionary development in the precious metal industry. PMC is manufactured by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation and is available in fine silver (99.9% pure silver) and 24K gold. It was developed in the 1990's out of need for the company to recycle precious metals. It is composed of three elements: pure metal particles, an organic non-toxic binder and water. It is clay-like in texture yet after firing it yields solid precious metal and beautiful enduring jewelry.

The clay like characteristics of PMC allows it to be manipulated by hand and shaped or molded with the use of simple hand tools. This allows the artist to form shapes that would be difficult and time consuming to make using traditional silversmith techniques. Once the items are shaped and dryed, they are fired in a kiln. The heat of the firing burns off the organic binder and causes the pure metal powder to fuse, leaving pure solid silver or gold.
